Calder Recording studio is situated in the picturesque Calder Valley, on the slopes of the Pennines close to Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. The studio can cater for all your recording needs from first demos to major album or single releases. With the combination of superb equipment, experienced staff and a great vibe, you will achieve recordings of the highest quality.
The studio is a purpose built complex offering fully automated 24/56 track digital or analogue recording. It's luxurious, comfortable, relaxed and very well equipped and within easy reach of the M62. We don't have a city centre location, therefore we have lower costs. We pass on these savings to our clients by offering lower session rates.
Bands from all around the UK have come to Calder Recordings knowing that they will get the best results whilst not breaking their budget. All our clients feel comfortable and relaxed in our idyllic countryside location, a setting that encourages great creativity. |

The Control Room is fully equipped with a 72 channel fully automated Mackie digital console, Pro Tools rig, racks of outboard, quality monitors and of course a nice comfy sofa for you to sit back on and listen to your music. We have a separate MIDI suite, equipped with a ProTools system, sequencers, 32 channel Spirit digital mixing console, racks of synths, samplers, loads of plug-ins and more. This room is fully networked to the main control room. Our Drum Room is equipped with an in-house 7 piece Peavey kit but your welcome to bring your own if required. The drum booth is supplied by Clearsonic and is completely removable if a larger main room area is required.
Our control rooms are kitted out with a wide selection equipment, both classic and state of the art.
Control room one, which serves the live/rehearsal room directly, is based around the famous hitmaker Mackie 'd8b' digital console with full patchbay, the studio offers fully automated 24 track recording and mixdown. The d8b has been expanded with additional UFX and MFX processor cards. Further to this, the control room also houses an industry standard ProTools™ audio production system running on a dual processor power Mac complete with Digidesign's own control surface. This has been seamlessly integrated with the Mackie to provide upto 56 tracks of recording and 104 channels at mixdown if required!
Multi-track recording and detailed editing/track arrangement can be made using our state of the art hard disk recording system, the stunning 96Khz capable HDR24/96 (Capable of supporting 192 tracks!), industry standard digital ADAT or analogue tape (on request). Monitoring is as good as it gets, with Genelec 8030a's, Active Truths, Kef 104's, dB Technology & Gale Monitors.
Control room two houses a fully automated midi-based recording facility, ideal for dance music production, jingle production, voice over work, keyboard work, song arrangement and more. This room can be used to support control room one and all audio can be transferred seamlessly, without degradation in quality, between rooms via a high speed network!
We provide a variety of mastering medium, DAT, CD & Tape.

Our Rehearsal room is acoustically treated and is equipped with in house PA, mics, amps and full drum kit. Bands that rehearse with us are free to use the kitchen facilities where there's a fridge, microwave, tea & coffee, DVD, video games and internet access. If you want to have your rehearsal recording we offer a basic room recording service for an additional charge of £2.50 per hour. |

We can supply multitrack sessions in .WAV, AAIF an dother format for clients to take away. We can also provide MP3 or WMA files for use on websites. ProTools & Mackie HDR Projects can also be supplied. This service is charged for at the mastering rate.
The studio is open seven days a week, days, evenings and weekends. Please note that weekends are favoured by a lot of people therefore booking in advance is essential. A small deposit is required to secure a booking (particularly block bookings), this can be paid for with cash or by cheques made payable to Calder Recordings.
All prices include VAT, engineering & production assistance and 2 CD-R Masters. Special rates are negotiable for young bands, community group sessions etc. so please call the discuss your requirements.

Calder Recordings are now offering short (half day) courses in audio engineering and production. All our courses are based in our professional studio and are aimed at anyone who wants to gain valuable and practical experience in a studio environment. Whether you're a complete novice looking to break into this exciting field or you've just finished a music technology course and are looking for some 'real' experience, we have a course to suit you.
All the courses are taught by Steve Fenton, he is qualified engineer and producer and has been working in the audio industry for more than 15 years. He has a vast amount of experience and is an associated member of the audio engineering society. Steve is also a lecturer, teaching Music Technology at Colleges in the UK.
Each course will be run either on a 1-1 or 1-2 basis thus ensuring each student receives maximum attention & practical time. All the courses are designed to be practical in nature and additional studio hours can be added (at the studio rate) to allow for individual projects to be extended if required. Courses can be booked at time that's convenient therefore, evenings and weekends are not a problem.
Course 003 : Introduction to MIDI & Audio Production |
The aim of the course is to introduce MIDI programming and music production techniques to the participants whilst they work. The course is based around practical work in a real studio environment. This course is aimed at people who have no experience of MIDI & music production and would like an introduction to this very exciting field.
Skills Covered - Audio file editing & manipulation, Sampling, MIDI & Its uses in a studio, Cubase VST, Soundforge audio editing & Pro-tools use, Timestretching of audio, Use of effects & plug-ins such as echo, reverb, compression, gating etc, Mixing, Automation & Mastering.
Duration - 4 Hours.
Cost - £110 (inc VAT, tuition, full use of equipment & Project CD at the end of the day) |
Course 004 : Introduction to 'Live' Recording & Audio Production |
The aim of the course is to introduce basic recording and music production techniques to the participants whilst they work. The course is based around practical work in a real studio environment involving the recording of a ‘live’ band or artist. This course is aimed at people who have no experience of recording and would like an introduction to this very exciting field.
Skills Covered - Multitrack recording, Talkback, Roles in a studio, Studio Layout, Audio file editing & manipulation. Microphone use and placement, Microphone Types, Use of effects such as echo, reverb, compression, gating etc. Mixing.
Duration - 5 Hours.
Cost - £150 (inc VAT, tuition, full use of equipment & Project CD at the end of the day) |
Course 005 : Advanced Recording & Audio Production Techniques |
The aim of the course is to enhance music production techniques whilst working on a ‘real’ studio recording. The course is based around practical work in a real studio environment. The course is a natural extension to course 004. This course is aimed at people who have had some experience of music production and would like to enhance their skills with in this very exciting field. People wishing to undertake this course are encouraged to complete course 004 first however this is not compulsory.
Skills Covered - Audio file editing & manipulation, Applying compression, gating and effects to a multi-track recording. Mixing, Automation Systems & Mastering, Using A Multi-track Recorder, Use of multi-band compression. Auxillary routing and effects returns, Grouping.
Duration - 5 Hours.
