Shop Lock Studio is a digital recording studio located in Todmorden, a semi-rural mill town in the heart of the Pennines. The studio has recently undergone a major upgrade, incorporating state of the art digital equipment and a full midi suite.

Todmorden straddles the Lancashire/Yorkshire border and is conveniently situated between the cities of Manchester and Leeds. The studio is located in an attractive canal side location in the town centre, close to shops, pubs, hotels and restaurants, and a particular feature of the studio complex is a fabulous roof terrace, ideal for relaxing between takes.

We also produce and record soundtracks for video, DVD and games projects. We provide a full post recording mixing and mastering service. We have some excellent editing software which means that you do not have to worry too much about getting that perfect take.

We can supply your recorded material on CD’s, DAT’s, Minidisc’s and Mp3 or other digital audio formats. We can provide a full design, duplication and printing service for large volumes of CD’s. We can provide a number of top quality session musicians if required.

We provide a quality rehearsal package for local bands

We provide quality backing and original material for singers. You bring the lyrics and melody and we’ll provide the music.

We also offer tailored packages of tuition for those wishing to learn digital recording, sequencing and programming.

Shop Lock Studio has been in exostance for a couple of years and was designed and built by Shop Lock proprietor, Bob Hunter. Bob went from one side of the mixing desk to the other, after recording many sessions as a musician throughout the 80’s and 90’s. He started to build the studio in 2000, and now works on the Production and Sound Engineering team. This team expanded in 2005 to include local producer, engineer and musician, Cliff Scholes. The studio is constantly evolving and the equipment list is also upgraded and improved regularly.

At Shop Lock Studio we like to make strong links with local musicians and the local music scene, and as such we are happy to rent out the Studio for rehearsal space when we are not recording. We can provide an excellent space for local bands or individuals who want to rehearse in a professional environment, free from time constraints and the worry of noise disturbing the neighbours.

Drummers are welcome to use the Studio kit, and included in the rehearsal booking price is the use of PA, leads, and mic’s. As an extra we can offer a flat, room recording of your rehearsal for a small additional fee. There is also a well equipped kitchen area for tea, coffee etc.

The rates are currently £10.00 per hour or £12.50 per hour for a straight recording of your rehearsal onto CD.

The proviso is that booked rehearsal time may need to be changed at short notice as full studio bookings necessarily take priority.

We can offer tailored packages for those wishing to learn digital recording, sequencing and programming.

Our philosophy is that the best way to learn is hands on, and we can provide access to a wealth of equipment and software, as well as years of experience in the use of digital audio technology, to guide and teach you how to use your own PC for recording and creating music.

We can teach you about programming, sequencing, editing, mixing and mastering your tracks and all of this in a professional and inspiring environment.

Our hourly rate is £30.00 for the first hour (or any part of) and additional hours are charged at £20.00 per hour

£80.00 per half day (for any four hour session between 09.00 - 23.00) with additional hours at £20.00

£150 per day (8 hour day, usually 10.00 - 18.00) with additional hours charged at £15.00

Weekly rate £750 for six 8 hour sessions with additional hours at £15.00

We will always consider concessionary rates depending on circumstances.

For all bookings the studio will be open for an hour prior to start time for setting up. This is at no extra charge but make good use of this time as after an hour the meter starts ticking!
