The Works recording studio is a state-of-the-art digital recording studio, set in a beautiful Victorian Rectory in Stockport, South Manchester. Combine the 192 track Pro Tools with quality analogue equipment, and all the luxuries of a residential studio and The Works offers everything you could need. From recording, mixing and duplication to photography, video production and website design, we provide a professional and friendly service, to make your stay here productive and enjoyable. We can record everything from demo CDs to professionally produced albums, in a creative and relaxed atmosphere.

We are equally at home with multi-instrument live recording or midi-based music. The 192 track HD3 Pro Tools rig can handle the most complex sessions, and the multiple room setting allows for a large group of people to work and relax in comfort. The layout and feel is similar to a residential studio, and you won't find yourself sharing the facilities with anybody else whilst you are here.

The Control room offers a relaxed and creative environment - acoustically designed, air-conditioned, naturally lit and ergonomically designed with ample workspace and accurate monitoring. Both the live and drum rooms have been acoustically designed to give optimum reflections and ambience. Both are air-conditioned, and the main live room has natural light and a direct view into the control room.

The Piano room is a large untreated space with reverberating wooden floors providing a warm acoustic space, perfect for acoustic guitar, vocals or our classic german upright piano. The stone floors of the graffiti room offer a unique ambience, and this room has proved a popular place to put a guitar amp.

recreation room

The Pool Room is linked to the control room via an intercom. It has a double sofabed, Internet connected Mac, stereo, en suite shower/toilet and a free, pub-size pool table. It also has a mini kitchen with a fridge, cooker and microwave. If you don't fancy cooking, we know plenty of takeaways that will deliver to the studio or in-house catering can be arranged.

The Graffitti room is situated between the two live rooms. Here you can choose from a list of DVDs and computer games, or just veg on the double sofa bed in front of the Digital TV. The stone floors and wooden cupboard also make this room an interesting place to stick amps that need different acoustic reflections.

The Piano room is an escape from technology, it has two single pull-out beds.....and a piano.

The Works is commited to supporting unsigned bands, and love nothing more than recording the demo that gets you signed. As a result we offer a 3 day demo deal. Development deals may also be consider.

The Works has Pro Control expanded to the maximum 32 channels. The Pro Tools® TDM system contains some of the most powerful mix automation available on any digital system. This includes Write, Touch, Latch and Read modes for fader levels, pans, sends, mutes, Plug-In parameters and more. With ProControl™, literally every parameter capable of automation in Pro Tools TDM systems can be controlled from the ProControl surface. ProControl provides the feel, performance, and reliability of moving faders found on other high-end mixing consoles. Advanced touch-sensitive circuitry means all you have to do is touch the fader to override servo control. Two 15-inch flat screen monitors separate the edit and audio pages.

engineers

We can provide an engineer suited to your project and budget. Alternatively you are welcome to bring your own, as Rob (the studio owner) is always on hand to help familiarise new engineers with the studio setup.

In addition to engineering your session, the engineers are available for song development, and pre-production. They can write and record complete backing tracks if you have no music, just contact us to discuss your needs and we will find an engineer to suit your project.
