During the mid to late 1980's, Basil Clarke led the Manchester quartet Yargo whose style fused a subtle mix of Jazz, funk and reggae with pop sensibilities into their own innovative sound. The band also comprised Tony Burnside (guitar), Paddy Steer (bass) and Phil Kirby (drums).
Their first album was titled ''Bodyheat'', in 1987 Yargo signed to London records and released the album “Communicate'' in 1989. The album included the landmark track ''The other side of midnight'' which featured as the title and soundtrack to Granada TV's late night arts programme hosted by Factory Records and Hacienda Nightclub supremo Anthony H Wilson.
The group split shortly afterwards to pursue solo careers. Those who had the good fortune to witness Yargo live were privy to some of the most scintillating live performances possible...sexy and raw…
Basil is currently writing and recording on the brink of releasing a gorgeous, exquisite, stunning new album.
