.karen lane jazz vocalist london

As musician and songwriter Karen Lane is a rare breed among jazz vocalists. She has worked across genres from soul, funk, and acid Jazz, on projects as varied as music for theatre and TV, through to conceiving and co-producing Australia's first women singer songwriters' festival and compilation CD titled Bloomers in 1998.

Lane's credits include performances at the Sydney International Arts Festival, the Melbourne International Arts Festival, coveted support slots for British jazz pianist, Julian Joseph's, 1994 Australian tour, York Jazz festival Western Australia, and 1998 Go Girl! Sydney Women's Festival. In London Karen has focused her energies on Jazz steadily establishing a strong UK following, culminating in "sell out" gigs at Pizza on the Park in November 2001 and "Cleo Laine and John Dankworth's" prestige venue Stables Theatre throughout 2002 and 2003. Musically Lane's arrangements, often driven by groove or counterpoint within the rhythm section, reflect her soulful heritage while her undulating and evocative vocals blend traditional resonance and phrasing with decidedly modern inflections.

Karen¹s debut album titled "Once in a Lifetime" is now available www.karenlane.co.uk or in stores throughout the UK. www.jazz33.f9.co.uk Label 33 Records UK, Distributor NewNote.

"A lovely singer Highly Recommended" MICHAEL PARKINSON, BBC RADIO 2 UK

"Once in a Lifetime is certainly the real Karen Lane. I know of no-one else who sings with what I can only describe as her demure abandon. It's wholehearted but at the sametime restrained, precisely phrased but not studied a fine and distinctive singer." DAVE GELLY, MUSICIAN MAGAZINE UK

"When you hear her softly Latinised account of On Green Dolphin Street here, the band resembles Astrud Gilberto in some kind of unannounced encounter with the MJQ. She swings gracefully on Devil May Care, and is sensually funky on a soulful Love Me or Leave Me." JOHN FORDHAM, JAZZ UK MAGAZINE

"The CD Once In a Lifetime highlights the different qualities her voice possesses, as well as the considerable interpretative skills at her disposal. There are also three robust examples of her own song writing. It maybe early days in England for Karen Lane in terms of overall career, but if talent is still a significant factor in the development of a successful jazz singer she has good reason to be optimistic about the future." JAZZWISE (UK)
